Skip counting and multiplication with Lego

We love Lego!  Building sets, using imagination and for school tasks, we manage to incorporate it into many aspects of life.  We have collections of both Duplo and ‘Little Lego’ as we call it.  Both have their own uses.  Duplo tends to get used when we need something on a  grand scale, or something to be built quickly!  Little Lego for times when the boys want to fiddle and have quiet time.

This week we tried a maths activity with Duplo and Mr Me LOVED it.  We practised counting by 10s and used the Duplo bricks for a multiplication representation.

He began with the bricks in a basket and I let him determine his own method for matching and stacking.  Throughout the process he made some wonderful observations and mathematical connections.  Fun learning before bedtime!

Apparently the text rubs off with a magic eraser, I bought one today to try out!

Keep posted for my next Lego post, using Lego for story writing.

What have you used Lego for?
